Xanax 2mg is a powerful medicine containing alprazolam, a benzodiazepine prescribed for the treatment of anxiety and panic disorders. It works by influencing the activity of certain chemicals in the brain, resulting in a calming effect.

Xanax 2mg is used for:

• Treatment of anxiety disorders.
• Treatment of panic disorders with or without agoraphobia.
• Short-term relief of severe anxiety symptoms.

User manual

The standard dose of alprazolam for adults is usually  0.25 mg to 0.5 mg three times a day . The exact dosage is determined by your doctor based on your individual situation.

• Do not use alprazolam for longer than a few weeks (usually a maximum of 2 months) at a time for anxiety. For panic disorder and social anxiety disorder, you often need to use it for a few months. Your doctor will determine this together with you. 
• If you use it every day for longer than 2 consecutive weeks, you will need to taper off slowly when stopping . 
• It is also possible that you need to use this medicine ‘when necessary’.
• Do you use this medicine only in special cases, such as for fear of flying? Then take it approximately 1 hour in advance.
• You will become calmer within a few hours; the effect usually starts 30-60 minutes after ingestion.

Take the tablet with some water and swallow.

Contraindications: when should I not use this product ?

Do not use Xanax if:

• Hypersensitivity to alprazolam or other benzodiazepines
• Severe respiratory problems
• Sleep apnea
• Severe liver failure
• Use in children under 18 years of age.

Possible side effects

• General side effects.
  • Daytime sleepiness and drowsiness , dizziness,  headache , memory loss, confusion, reduced alertness, muscle weakness and coordination problems, nightmares, speech problems, mood swings, gastrointestinal complaints (such as nausea and diarrhea or constipation).
  • The drowsiness can last until the next day!
• Reduced efficacy and dependence (with use of alprazolam for a period longer than 2 weeks). Use this medicine as prescribed.
  • With prolonged use, this medicine will become less and less effective at keeping you calm (= tolerance). 
  • Dependence will develop with prolonged use.
    • Psychological: your body expects the medication to calm down.
    • Physical: when you stop suddenly, you experience withdrawal symptoms and may possibly have more anxiety.

Properties

Xanax 2.00 mg has an anxiety-reducing, sedative, and muscle-relaxant effect. It belongs to the group of intermediate-acting benzodiazepines.

The tablets work for approximately 8 to 12 hours. Distribute the tablets as evenly as possible throughout the day. So, if taking them 3 times a day, it is best to take them every 8 hours.

Precautionary measures

Be cautious when combining with other medications that suppress the central nervous system. The use of alcohol is discouraged. Long-term use can lead to habituation and dependence.

Be careful if you take alprazolam with the following medicines:

• Medicines that suppress the central nervous system and can cause drowsiness. Exercise caution when using concurrently with medicines belonging to the class ‘opioids’.
• Medicines that impact the CYP3A4 metabolism process. Your pharmacist or doctor can advise you on this. Also avoid consuming grapefruit juice , as this will increase the effect of alprazolam and increase the risk of drowsiness and other side effects. 

Further points to consider:

• Do not use for extended periods without medical advice.
• Exercise caution when using in the elderly, as they are more susceptible to drowsiness and falls . In such cases, use will often be strictly adhered to, and efforts will be made to keep the alprazolam dose as low as possible.
• In case of impaired liver function, the alprazolam dosage must be reduced, or you may not even use alprazolam at all. Your doctor will monitor this.
